The Perfect Pitch

September 1st, 2011

For one hour every Wednesday night, you can find Shayne and I on the couch, watching Dragon’s Den. To us, the appeal of this show is seeing the passion and ingenuity some of the entrepreneurs possess and learning from a business side, what makes an idea worth investing in.

On August 10th, I had a unique opportunity to pitch our business idea in front of 3 judges, a la Dragon’s Den style. The event was the Perfect Pitch, hosted by FarmOn, and supported by Community Futures, Northlands, Alberta School of Business, Rural Alberta Development Fund, Creating Pathways, Bashaw Agricultural Committee & RBC.

The concept was simple – you had 3 minutes to pitch your business to the judges. Then the judges had time to ask you some hard-hitting questions on your business plan and concepts.

The reward – an opportunity to be lined up with a mentor handpicked to suit your industry and needs, and a chance to win $25,000 to further your business in the finals.

I have to say, the greatest part of the day was being able to watch all the other contestants pitches and see all the creative ideas our generation is coming up and just like me, the passion that they possess to create a bright future for their selves, their families and their farms.

I am extremely honoured and excited that Tangle Ridge Ranch was chosen as one of the top 6 finalists in the Perfect Pitch. As part of the competition, we will be updating our blog frequently and are going to include a few video blogs on our farm activities! Keep watching as we move towards the finals at Farm Fair in November!
