Spring Update and new Recipe!

April 15th, 2011

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to offer a quick update on the goings on around the ranch! Spring has sprung and with it has brought us plenty of moisture and running water. Our dugout that we built 4 years ago and sat empty due to drought, filled up in 1 day!!! That is incredible as it is over 17 feet deep and holds over 1 million gallons. We now will be able to operate our winter watering system next year, and have plenty of water to fill up the water truck instead of having to drive to town all summer.

The ewes made it through the long cold winter just fine. They are all in really good condition and will put on a little weight now coming into lambing season at the end of May. We did go through quite a few bales because of the colder weather but when they are only getting hay it is to be expected.

I also wanted to share a link to a recipe that we tried out last week….It is Chicken Fried Lamb with white gravy. What a truly delicious way to cook lambchops. It was different and definitely had a Southern feel to the meal. Try it out!

Here are some pictures of our dugout filled with water and some other pictures to show the amount of water we have so far around the farm! Enjoy!
